Handball player of the year (Germany)
The handball player of the year award is given annually to the most outstanding handball players of the year in Germany. The handball player of the year in Germany has been elected every year since 1978, when the men's national handball team of the Federal Republic of Germany became world handball champions . The election is carried out by the readers of the handball week and the handball player of the year and the handball woman of the year are chosen in parallel . The titleholders for 2019 are Timo Kastening and Emily Bölk .
From 1980 to 1989 handball players of the year were also elected in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) .
Men
The record handball player of the year is Andreas Thiel , who won the election seven times. In 1992, Mikael Källman, a foreign player, was named handball player of the year in Germany for the first time . Erhard Wunderlich was voted German handball player of the century.
