Hassan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hasan ( Arabic حسن, DMG Ḥasan  'good, the good'): [ ħasan ] is a common Arabic name known from Hasan ibn Ali , the grandson of the Islamic prophet Mohammed . Hasan (also spelled “Hassan”) is also used as a surname, not only in Arabic, but also in Hebrew and Irish.

Origin and meaning

The Latin phonetic transcription Hassan can also be another (and rarer) name [ ħas'sa: n ] ( Arabic. ) From the same language root (ħ-sn) حسان, DMG Ḥassān  'the very good, the very beautiful'). The latter form (for example in the tribal name Bani Hassan ) is an increase in the first, which is expressed by the gemination or doubling of the S and the long stressed [ a: ]. To differentiate, there is the possibility of writing Hassân .

A diminutive of Hassan is Hussein . The Turkish form of the name is Hasan. A variant of Hasan is Tahsin .
