Heineken Cup 1998/99

The Heineken Cup 1999/2000 was the fifth edition of the Heineken Cup , the most important European cup competition in rugby union . Twenty-four teams from six countries took part, including teams from England after they had been absent the previous year due to disputes between the organizers and the English association. The final took place on May 27, 2000 at Twickenham Stadium in London . Cup winners were the Northampton Saints from England, who beat the Irish team Munster Rugby in the final .

mode

The participants were divided into six groups of four teams each. Each team played a home game and an away game against the three group opponents. The six group winners and the two best runners-up qualified for the quarter-finals.

The points were distributed as follows:

  • 2 points for a win
  • 1 point for a tie
