The Mirima National Park (English Mirima National Park , formerly: Hidden Valley National Park ) is a national park in the extreme northeast of the Australian state of Western Australia . It is located about 2,220 km northeast of Perth on the outskirts of the city of Kununurra .

National nature

The park is popularly known as "Mini Bungle Bungle ", because with its weathered mountain range of orange-red sandstone and some round, beehive-like sandstone knolls, the center of the park is reminiscent of structures in the Purnululu National Park . However, the entire national park only covers an area of 2,068 hectares and thus less than 1% of the Purnululu area.

Established in 2006, the national park consists of a single sandstone canyon created by Lilly Creek .

Aboriginal

The area is of great importance for the local Aboriginal tribe of the Miriwoong , as evidenced by a number of rock carvings. The current name of the park comes from the Miriwoong. The area with this name, however, extends from Kununurra 150 km in north-south direction and 170 km in east-west direction.

Access and facilities

The park can be reached from Kununurra via an asphalt road and there is an entrance fee to be paid. Camping and open fires are not permitted in the park. Three hiking trails less than 1 km long lead through the park. Toilets, picnic tables and information stands are available.
