Iiyama ( Japanese 飯 山 市 , - shi ) is a city in the northeast of Nagano Prefecture on the Japanese main island of Honshu .

Iiyama is northeast of Nagano and south of Jōetsu .
history
Iiyama was founded on August 1, 1954 from the former communities of Iiyama, Akitsu, Tokiwa, Yanagihara, Tozama, Kijima, and Mizuho.
