history

The current stretch of Interstate 215 opened in 1963 as part of US Highway 395 . In 1968 the route became Interstate 15 , in 1972 the route of Interstate 15 was changed again, so that today's Interstate 215 became its bypass route and was named Interstate 15E . In 1982 the next renaming took place: The part north of California State Route 60 became Interstate 215, the part south of it became California State Route 215. After the southern section had also been adapted to the standards of an interstate highway , this area became in 1994 attached to the existing Interstate 215.
