The JP Morgan Tournament of Champions 2013 took place January 18-24, 2013 at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan , New York City , United States . The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 2012/13 and at the same time the first tournament of the current season of the World Series 2013. The women's tournament was part of the WSA World Tour 2012/13 and belonged to the WSA Silver 25 category .

Defending champion in the men's race was Nick Matthew , who failed in the semi-finals this year against Frenchman Grégory Gaultier . Gaultier, title holder from 2009, faced reigning world champion Ramy Ashour in the final , who won the tournament in 2008 and 2011. The Frenchman lost the final, despite a 2-0 set lead, 3-2 to Ashour, who celebrated his third title at the Tournament of Champions. In the women's category, Natalie Grinham defended her title from last year, defeating Kasey Brown in three sets in the final .

The field of participants in the men's competition consisted of 32 players, eight of which were starting places for qualifiers. 16 players competed in the women's competition, four of which were starting places for qualifiers. The eight best players were seeded in both fields. Per Wildcard received Todd Harrity in the men's and Latasha Khan a spot in the main draw in the women each.

Prize money and world ranking points

At the tournament, the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who enter the main field from qualification receive the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. The total prize pool was $ 115,000 for the men and $ 25,000 for the women.
