Jonathan "Jon" Peter McLaughlin (born September 9, 1987 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish football goalkeeper who is under contract with the Glasgow Rangers .

Career

Jon McLaughlin was born in the Scottish capital Edinburgh in 1987. He began his football career in Harrogate , England , 30 km southwest of Bradford . There he played in non-league football for Harrogate Railway Athletic and Harrogate Town and also studied at Beckett University in Leeds, 25 km south . In May 2008 he moved to the English fourth division club Bradford City . He made his debut at the age of 18 on the final day of the 2008/09 season against Chesterfield FC . As a result, his contract was extended by one year. Behind Matt Duke , he was a substitute goalkeeper until 2010, before he was increasingly able to dispute his place. In 2013 McLaughlin reached the league cup final with Bradford , which was lost to Swansea City . After Duke saw the red card, the Scot came on for Nahki Wells . In the same year he was promoted to the 3rd division. After the rise, McLaughlin had taken over the goalkeeper position and completed all 46 league games. After 118 league appearances, he left the club at the end of the 2013/14 season . He then signed a contract with fourth division club Burton Albion . With the club he succeeded in 2015 as a regular goalkeeper, winning the league championship and the associated promotion to the English third division. In August 2017, the goalkeeper moved to his hometown and signed a one-year contract with Heart of Midlothian from the Scottish Premiership . After the contract had expired he moved to the English third division AFC Sunderland .

On June 23, 2020, he moved to the Glasgow Rangers .

National team

Jon McLaughlin was established in March 2018 the new Scottish coach Alex McLeish , the first time in the squad of the senior team for the internationals against Costa Rica and Hungary appointed. The goalkeeper was not used in the two games. He made his debut three months later in the Aztec Stadium against Mexico .
