history
The state was formed on May 27, 1967. The first governor was Abdu Bako between May 28, 1967 and July 1975. Ibrahim Shekarau has been the current governor since May 29, 2003 .
The recent history of the city of Kano and its region has been marked by violence between Christian and Muslim populations. The state has been subject to Sharia law since 2000 . Since then, Kano has been considered a center of Islamism . Non-Muslims , especially Christians, are systematically oppressed and exposed to previously unknown dangers. There are also evictions.
