The CIK-FIA World Karting Championships , in short: the karting world championship is organized by the CIK, the world karting association. The CIK, in turn, is subject to the FIA , the world automobile association . The Kart World Championship is held once a year and is the highlight of the season in professional karting. The karting is one of only five automotive motorsport classes that enjoy a World Cup status with the FIA.

useful information

The kart world championship was held in 3 classes up to the year 2000, in the 100 cm³ class Formula A , the Formula Super A , until 1992 Formula K , the class of the works teams, also with 100 cm³ engines, but without any Material limitations and a larger carburetor. The 3rd class, which always got lost, was Formula C , the switch class with 125 cm³ gear motors. From 2001 the world championship was held in 5 events with 2 races each, and only in Formula Super A. All other classes (for the time being) did not hold a world championship. This system was abolished very quickly, as Formula Super A was becoming more and more expensive and could hardly be financed. In 2003, there were hardly any registrations, the CIK completely abolished Formula Super A. All world championship races were canceled, only the planned season finale in Sarno was held, the world championship was held again in Formula A, which moved up as the premier class after the elimination of Formula Super A. Many works teams came, the privateers were there anyway and you had a large field of drivers again. Since 2003, the World Cup will again, as originally, once a year, extended over a weekend, in the classes of formula A and formula C, which, however, from the time when Super IC / C is called. Since 2006 a world championship has also been held in the IC / A class. In 2007 came the new TaG (Touch and Go) motors, which are started with a push of a button on the steering wheel and have a clutch. The engines have 125 cm³ and are sealed off at 16,000 revolutions, which should make the engines more durable than the old 100 cm³ engines, which in the IC / A up to around 19,000, in Formula A up to around 20,000 and in Formula Super A. , thanks to the larger carburetor, turned well over 20,000. The classes got new names and engines, but in principle today's KF1 is the old Formula A, and KF2 is the old IC / A. Formula C / Super IC / C also got a new name, it will be referred to as KZ1 with immediate effect, but technically this class remained unchanged. The World Championship of Formula A or KF1 was always held together with that of Formula Super A, or is always held with that of IC / A or KF2. The Formula C or KZ1 world championships, on the other hand, will be held on a different weekend, on a different track, in conjunction with other CIK championships.
