László Bénes (born September 9, 1997 in Dunajská Streda ) is a Slovak football player . The offensive midfielder is under contract with the German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach and is a senior international .

Career

Bénes began his career at FK Šamorín and came to the youth department of the Hungarian club Győri ETO FC via the DAC Dunajská Streda in 2011 . For his first team, he came on December 6, 2014 in the 2-0 away win against Honvéd Budapest to a use in the Nemzeti Bajnokság . In February 2015, Bénes moved to MŠK Žilina . There he completed eight league games by the end of the season and won the runner-up with the team . In the 2015/16 season , Bénes developed into a regular player and scored his first goal in professional football on September 12, 2015 in a 3-0 home win against ŠK Slovan Bratislava . In total, he made 23 appearances in the season with two goals.

For the 2016/17 season , Bénes moved to the German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach , with whom he signed a five-year contract. He made his first Bundesliga appearance on March 19, 2017, when he came on as a substitute in the 1-0 home defeat against FC Bayern Munich in the closing stages. On April 5, 2017, Bénes scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 1-0 home win against Hertha BSC . Overall, Benes played eight games with one goal in the 2016/17 season .

In the following season , Bénes suffered a metatarsal fracture in September, which cost him large parts of the season, so that he only came to two short appearances.

After Bénes didn't really get a chance in the first half of the 2018/19 season , he switched to second division Holstein Kiel on loan at the end of January 2019 . By the end of the 2018/19 season he made 15 second division appearances under head coach Tim Walter , in which he scored 2 goals.

Bénes then returned to Mönchengladbach and will be regularly deployed in the 2019/20 season under the new coach Marco Rose . On November 21, 2019, the association announced an extension of its contract by three years until 2024.

National team

Bénes played in the 3-0 defeat against Austria on September 19, 2012 once for the U16s of the Slovak Football Association . For the U18 selection , he was on the field once in August and September 2014. On November 12, 2014, he made his debut in a 4-1 win against Azerbaijan in the U19 national team , for which he played a total of eight times, including five games in the qualification for the U19 European Championship 2015 and two in the qualification for the U19 European Championship 2016 . He scored three goals, but failed to qualify. From October 2015, Bénes was part of the Slovak U21 squad and played twelve games in which he scored three goals. In June 2017 he took her to the U21 European Championship 2017 in Poland and was eliminated with the team after the group stage. Bénes was a substitute in all three group matches. In the meantime, his career as a youth national player has ended for reasons of age.

On June 10, 2017, Bénes made his debut in the 2-1 victory in Lithuania in the senior national team . After a long break, his second senior international match followed on June 7, 2019 in a 5-1 win in the friendly against Jordan . In the group matches of qualifying for the 2020 European Championship , Bénes was twice in the squad, but was not used.
