The district of Lauenburg-Bütow , also Lauenburg-Bütowscher district, was a district that existed in Pomerania from 1772/1777 to 1845 . The former district area is now largely in the powiats Bytowski and Lęborski in the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship .

history

The district emerged from the lands of Lauenburg and Bütow , which the Prussian kings had as a fief since 1637 from the crown of Poland . As part of the first partition of Poland in 1772 and formally through the Warsaw Treaty of 1773 , the fiefdom became an integral part of Prussia. This gradually ceased the special status of the Lauenburg and Bütow regions. With regard to judicial matters, Lauenburg and Bütow were initially placed in West Prussia in 1773 . With regard to the rest of the state administration, Lauenburg and Bütow belonged to Pomerania. In 1777 the Lauenburg and Bütow regions were also formally incorporated into the Prussian Duchy of Western Pomerania and formed the new Lauenburg-Bütow district there. The seat of the district administrator was the city of Lauenburg . It was not until 1803/1804 that the Lauenburg-Bütow district was also assigned to Pomerania with regard to judicial matters.

The district consisted of the two spatially separated districts of Lauenburg in the northeast and Bütow in the southwest. The district of Lauenburg included the cities of Lauenburg and Leba , the royal office of Lauenburg and other noble villages, while the district of Bütow consisted of the city of Bütow , the office of Bütow and other noble villages.

As a result of the Prussian provincial authorities ordinance of April 30, 1815, the district became part of the Köslin administrative district of the Pomeranian province . During the Pomeranian district reform of 1818, the demarcation of the district was not changed.

The Lauenburg-Bütow district did not belong to the Holy Roman Empire until its end in 1806, nor did the Lauenburg and Bütow regions previously. With the formation of the German Confederation , however, the Lauenburg-Bütow district had been part of the federal territory since 1815.

On January 1, 1846, the district was divided into the two new districts of Lauenburg and Bütow .
