Lazany (Hungarian Bajmóclazán - until 1907 Lazán ) is a municipality in the west-center of Slovakia with 1708 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Prievidza , part of the Trenčiansky kraj .

geography

The village is located in the middle of the Hornonitrianska kotlina basin on the Porubský creek , which flows into the Nitra not far from the village. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 313  m nm and is eight kilometers from Prievidza .

Neighboring municipalities are Malinová in the north, Poluvsie in the northeast, Nedožery-Brezany in the east, Prievidza in the southeast, Bojnice in the south, Kanianka in the west and Poruba in the northwest.

history

Lazany was first mentioned in writing as Lazan in 1430 , but it originated before the 12th century. The village belonged to the estate of Weinitz Castle , from 1479 the Weinitz provost's office. In the 14th and 15th centuries, attempts were made to mine gold , which is still reflected in the district names such as Zlatno . In 1787 there were 60 houses and 433 inhabitants and in 1828 74 houses and 519 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and as linen weavers . A mill and saw worked in the village, and after 1905 also a cooperative distillery.

Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Lazany had 1616 inhabitants, 1599 of whom were Slovaks, four Czechs and three Germans. Ten residents gave no information in this regard. 1368 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, eight residents to the Evangelical Church AB, four residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each to the Jewish community and the Congregational Church; six residents professed a different denomination. 188 inhabitants had no denomination and 40 inhabitants had no denomination.

Buildings

  • Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Snow (Slovak Kostol Panny Márie Snežnej ) from 1872–1875, which replaced an older Gothic one. Inside you can still find the old sacristy from the 14th century and wooden sculptures from the 16th century.
