The men's marathon at the 1958 European Athletics Championships took place on August 24, 1958 in the Swedish capital Stockholm .
The Soviet runner Sergei Popow won the race with a new world record in 2: 15: 17.0 hours. Vice European champion was his compatriot Iwan Ilyich Filin ahead of the Briton Frederick Norris .
The two German athletics associations appeared as a team at these European championships. In elimination competitions, Lothar Beckert from the GDR and Jürgen Wedeking from the Federal Republic of Germany qualified for participation in the European Championship .

Record improvement
With his time of 2: 15: 17.0 h, Sergei Popow improved as the new European champion Veikko Karvonen's European championship record by 9: 34.6 minutes.
Result
The 1956 Olympic champion Alain Mimoun did not finish this time
