The men's 5000-meter run at the European Athletics Championships in 1966 was held on September 2 and September 4, 1966 in Budapest's Népstadion .
The European champion was the Frenchman Michel Jazy - three days earlier the runner-up in the 1500 meters . He won before the German Olympic runner-up in 1964 Harald Norpoth , who had won bronze over 1500 meters here in Budapest. Third place went to GDR runner Bernd Dießner .
