Leutersdorf is a municipality in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in Thuringia . The municipality belongs to the administrative community Dolmar-Salzbrücke , which has its administrative seat in Schwarza . Leutersdorf lies in the Werra valley .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1057. The place initially belonged as an exclave to the possession of the Würzburg monastery in the county of Henneberg . In 1435 the Würzburg bishop pledged the places Leutersdorf and Vachdorf to the Counts of Henneberg -Schleusingen. The pledge was not redeemed until 1495. In 1542 Leutersdorf came to the Counts of Henneberg-Schleusingen as part of the Meiningen exclave in Würzburg . After their extinction, the town and the Meiningen office came to the Wettins in 1583 .
Leutersdorf has a fortified church . It stands on a small mountain spur on the high western edge of the village. A small gate tower and gaden as well as remains of the wall are still there.
Leutersdorf was affected by the persecution of witches from 1628 to 1685: seven people were indicted in the witch trials , at least three were executed, the outcome of three trials is unknown. In 1628, the first victim was Osanna, Barthel Herlein's wife.
From 1680 to 1918 the place belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen and was in the Meiningen office until 1825 and then in the Maßfeld office until 1829 .

traffic
The federal highway 89 leads through the village from Meiningen (approx. 15 km northwest) in the direction of Themar (approx. 5 km east) and Hildburghausen (approx. 17 km southeast). Leutersdorf is close to the Eisenach – Lichtenfels railway line , but has no stopping point .

- Hans Schaub (–1685), a “poor boy”, grandson of pastor Wilhelm Schaub in Leutersdorf, beheaded in a witch trial .
