List of car-free places

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Electric vehicle in Zermatt

The following places are car-free . In this context, car-free generally means that no or almost no private vehicles are allowed to drive in these localities . A distinction is sometimes made between vehicles with internal combustion engines , which are prohibited, and electric vehicles , which are permitted, for example, with a special permit. Internal combustion engines are sometimes allowed on vehicles operated by blue light organizations , snow plows , public transport buses and similar vehicles.

Car-free places are often on islands and in isolated locations in the mountains, where there is no through traffic from the outset . Of course, the many places around the world that are simply not yet connected to the road network or where, for other reasons of insufficient economic development, no cars are yet in use are not included. The places mentioned here are deliberately declared car-free.
