( Location ) Old town area with market, church, town hall and castle The city of Liebenwerda was first mentioned in a document in 1231. Under the protection of a castle that was built in the 12th or 13th century, a settlement soon developed that already had city rights at the beginning of the 14th century. In the meantime known as a place of pilgrimage, the city suffered severe damage during the Thirty Years' War and, over time, several bad city fires. From the beginning of the 20th century, an iron moor bath settled in Liebenwerda, so that the city has been nicknamed the Bad since 1925 .
