City parish church of St. Nikolai | The parish church of St. Nikolai is a late Gothic building, the exact date of which is unknown. After a fire, Friedrich III sat down . for rebuilding it in 1515. Visits by Martin Luther are recorded from the years 1519 and 1544 . Inside there is a neo-Gothic pulpit and a splendid flat ceiling designed by the church painter August Oetken in 1911. The stained glass in the four windows of the choir show the baptism , birth, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ . They were created in 1908 in the Gerstner & Werner workshop in Görlitz and can be traced back to the foundations of the pharmacist Liebe and the office machine manufacturer Reiss. Also worth seeing is a fifth made of sandstone from 1671, as well as a larger than life crucifix in front of a triumphal cross on the south wall, which probably dates from the 16th or 17th century. | |

After the coal field intended to supply the factory turned out to be too small and too far away, operations ceased in 1899. The buildings were later used by a furnace factory for decades. In 2010 it was finally demolished. |
