M100 Sanssouci Colloquium
The M100 Sanssouci Colloquium is an international media meeting that takes place once a year in the palaces and gardens of the city of Potsdam .

The Colloquium was initiated in 2005 as part of Potsdam's application for European Capital of Culture and brings together around one hundred internationally leading opinion and media makers with the aim of intensifying dialogue among one another, promoting mutual understanding, and increasing the role and influence of the media in international affairs investigate and work for democracy, freedom of expression and freedom of the press. M100 is an event of the state capital Potsdam and the association Potsdam Media International e. V. and takes place at the beginning of September. For the 10th anniversary on September 12, 2014, the topic was “Media Freedom in the Age of Big Data”. In the historical orangery of Sanssouci, 53 international participants from the media, politics, internet companies and NGOs discussed this topic in two sessions with different focuses in a round table format. The conference was opened by the American scientist and author Shoshana Zuboff . In 2015, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Potsdam Agreement , the international participants discussed the current situation in Europe, which is “at a new crossroads” in view of the political crises and the growing threat of terrorism. On September 15, 2016 the theme was “War or Peace. The return of geopolitics, disintegration and the radicalization of society in Europe ”. The opening speaker was historian and political writer Dan Diner . The theme on September 14, 2017 was “Democracy or Despotism? The renaissance of the dark forces ”. Can Dündar , editor-in-chief of the German-Turkish news platform Özgürüz and former editor-in-chief of the Turkish daily Cumhuriyet , gave the opening speech .

M100 Media Award
On the occasion of the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium, the M100 Media Award will be presented at a gala evening . The symbolic and undoped prize is the “Prize of the European Press”. The M100 Advisory Board acts as the jury . The award is given to a personality who has left “footprints” in Europe and the world and who has rendered outstanding services to the protection of freedom of expression and the deepening of democracy.

M100 Young European Journalists Workshop
A multi-day workshop for young journalists from all over Europe precedes the colloquium . The workshop has been carried out since 2006 in cooperation with the European Youth Press. In 2006 the participants designed and created the multimedia internet platform Orangelog. It is used to exchange experiences and conference reports and is constantly updated. In 2007 there was a “Dialogue between Cultures” between the participants. In 2008, 33 young journalists from 24 countries were selected for the workshop on “The Journalist of the Future”. In 2009, 27 participants from 12 countries took part in the “Migration and Media” workshop. In 2010, the possibilities of investigative journalism were discussed with editors from Stern, Spiegel and ZDF.
In 2011 the topic was how the media can win over educationally disadvantaged young people into politics. The workshop was carried out with the support of duhastdiemacht.de . In 2012, participants from countries of the so-called “ Arab Spring ” were invited for the first time . The theme of the workshop was “After the Web 2.0 revolutions: New media as an instrument for change and more democracy?” In 2013, 20 young journalists from 20 European countries worked on the subject of “New Media - New Europe? How the Media Influence the Mood in Europe ”and also took part in the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium. The 10th workshop in 2014 took place in cooperation with the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and the Hasso Plattner Institute under the title "Data and Journalism: Between Big Stories and Dirty Surveillance". In 2015 the theme was “Journalism between Politics, Propaganda and Prison” and aimed at young journalists from the countries of the Eastern Partnership . The workshop took place with the support of the Federal Foreign Office and the National Endowment for Democracy . In 2016, 25 young journalists from the countries of the Eastern Partnership, Russia and all other countries on the European continent developed working techniques and methods of investigative research, in particular corruption and war reporting, questioning techniques, source protection, working with data and legal questions. In 2017, 15 young journalists from the countries of the Eastern Partnership and Russia dealt with the question, "How to finance independent journalism - training, platforms, business models".
