Mads Pedersen (born December 18, 1995 ) is a Danish cyclist . In 2019 he became world champion in road racing.

Athletic career

In 2012 Mads Pedersen won three renowned races for juniors, the Tour of Istria , the Trofeo Karlsberg and the Sint-Martinusprijs Kontich . The following year, he won Le Pavé de Roubaix , the junior edition of Paris – Roubaix , as well as the Course de la Paix for juniors and, a second time, the Karlsberg Trofeo .

In 2014 Pedersen drove in the U23 class and won the race around the financial center Eschborn-Frankfurt . In 2016 he won the Kattekoers , the U23 race from Gent – ​​Wevelgem . The sports director of his Stölting team , André Steensen , predicted a promising career for his protégé after this success: “I am sure that he can become a great classic driver in the future.” In the three days of De Panne race, which took place a few days later , Pedersen was ranked eight in the overall standings and thus became the best young driver.

At the 2019 World Championships in Yorkshire , Pedersen won the road race in a sprint out of a top group of three against Matteo Trentin and Stefan Küng . After several hours of continuous rain, this group broke away from the field with Gianni Moscon and the favored Mathieu van der Poel about 30 kilometers from the finish .
