?

Oberer Hohenwarsleber Weg ; District Old Olvenstedt ; ZIP 39130

The path leads in the direction of the village of Hohenwarsleben, northwest of Olvenstedt, and that's how it got its name. The designation Oberer serves to distinguish it from the Unteres Hohenwarsleber Weg, which runs further north in the same direction .

Upper Sülzeweg ; District Old Olvenstedt ; ZIP 39130

Formerly: Edgar-Andre-Straße
The street name refers to the stream Große Sülze flowing a little further north .

Oberhofer Strasse ; Westerhüsen district ; ZIP 39122

The street was named after the city of Oberhof in Thuringia by resolution of the city council on September 13, 2001 . A new residential area was to be built on a former LPG site, which made it necessary to name the new streets. The citizens' initiative Salbke / Westerhüsen suggested the use of Thuringian place names, as these were already being used for streets in the vicinity. The city administration's street names working group suggested the name Oberhof on the grounds that Oberhof had a good reputation among the Magdeburg population as a well-known Thuringian holiday destination. The city council followed the suggestion.

Colonel Forester Way ; Werder district ; ZIP 39114

Later: ascent to the bank
Today: Great Werder
This street was probably named after the German general of the pioneers and creator of the west wall Otto-Wilhelm Förster during the National Socialism . The current course of the Great Werder road only roughly corresponds to the course at that time. The Oberst-Förster-Weg was much closer to the east on the banks of the Old Elbe and was the direct northern extension of Oststraße .

Oelzeweg ; Ottersleben district ; ZIP 39116

Named after the painter Richard Oelze .
The designation was made by the city council on June 8, 2000, but was controversial. The Treuhandliegenschaftsgesellschaft mbH (TLG) wanted to develop a new residential area with 9 new streets. The TLG suggested naming artists from Magdeburg, including Richard Oelze. The citizens' initiative "Citizens for Ottersleben" turned against this. They suggested old field names and village terms for naming. The Oelzeweg should then be called "Zum Winterfeld". This is an old hallway name for the surrounding area. The CDU parliamentary group introduced a corresponding amendment to the city council. The reason given was that naming after people was rather unusual in the area and that there was no connection to Ottersleben. The amendment found a majority in the local and legal committee. In the city council, however, the application was rejected, so that the street was named after Richard Oelze.

Olive willow ; Brückfeld district ; ZIP 39114

The street was built on the former premises of the United Oil Works Hubbe and Farenholtz , which operated an oil mill here . Referring to this tradition, the street was named after the plant genus olive , to indicate the production of vegetable oil . However, the olive pastures are not of particular importance for oil production. The name is derived from the similar-looking olive trees . The designation as "Ölweide" is, apart from the questionable content, a bit strange, because the street is called exactly like the tree, without the usual addition like ... street or ... away (like linden instead of linden street ). The name suggests a pasture where there was oil , but it was not the case here. The neighboring street An der Ölmühle makes more specific reference to the former oil mill.

The name Osolfstraße should create a historical reference. Reference is made here to the first written mention of the place Olvenstedt. In the 10th century Olvenstedt is referred to in documents as Osolfstidi .
The original street name Mittagstrasse was given up in 1979 when Olvenstedt was incorporated into Magdeburg , as a "Mittagstrasse" already existed in Magdeburg and duplicate naming in Magdeburg, unlike in other large cities, should be avoided.

Ostendorfer Strasse ; District Old Olvenstedt ; ZIP 39130

Formerly: Karl-Marx-Straße (until 1979)
Ostendorfer Straße was named after the town of Ostendorf . However, this was already abandoned by its inhabitants in the Middle Ages and thus desolated . Ostendorf is said to have been in the area through which Ostendorfer Strasse now runs. In Alt Olvenstedt several streets bear the names of old desolations ( Lebersdorfer and Wisninger Straße , Plachwitzer Weg ).
Originally the street in the GDR was called Karl-Marx-Straße (see there). In 1979, however, Olvenstedt was incorporated into Magdeburg. Since there was already a Karl-Marx-Straße in Magdeburg and in Magdeburg, unlike in other large cities, the double assignment of street names is avoided, the street had to be given a new name.
