Markersdorf-Haindorf is a market town with 2090 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land in Lower Austria .
geography
Markersdorf-Haindorf is located in the Mostviertel west of St. Pölten in the Pielach valley . The area of the market town covers 16.67 square kilometers. 1.94 percent of the area is forested.

The community consists of the cadastral communities Haindorf, Knetzersdorf, Mannersdorf, Markersdorf, Mitterau, Mitterndorf, Nenndorf, Poppendorf, Winkel and Wultendorf.
history
In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .
In 1939 the Markersdorf Air Base was opened by the Reich Aviation Minister Hermann Göring . This is where the LSV Markersdorf an der Pielach football club is establishing itself . After bombing, which also caused severe damage in the town of Markersdorf itself, the remaining buildings were blown up in 1945 by the Wehrmacht and then by the Red Army .
With the Lower Austria. Municipal structural improvement were as of 1 January 1970, the municipalities Markersdorf an der Pielach and Hainsdorf were merged.
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census , there were 1799 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1581 inhabitants, in 1981 1507 and in 1971 1380 inhabitants.

Economy and Infrastructure
In 2001 there were 63 non-agricultural workplaces, and according to the 1999 survey there were 65 in agriculture and forestry. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at the place of residence was 860. In 2001, the employment rate was 50.02 percent.
