Markersdorf-Haindorf is located in the Mostviertel west of St. Pölten in the Pielach valley . The area of ​​the market town covers 16.67 square kilometers. 1.94 percent of the area is forested.

history

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .

In 1939 the Markersdorf Air Base was opened by the Reich Aviation Minister Hermann Göring . This is where the LSV Markersdorf an der Pielach football club is establishing itself . After bombing, which also caused severe damage in the town of Markersdorf itself, the remaining buildings were blown up in 1945 by the Wehrmacht and then by the Red Army .

With the Lower Austria. Municipal structural improvement were as of 1 January 1970, the municipalities Markersdorf an der Pielach and Hainsdorf were merged.

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census , there were 1799 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1581 inhabitants, in 1981 1507 and in 1971 1380 inhabitants.
