North Port is a city in Sarasota County in the US state of Florida with 57,357 inhabitants (as of 2010).

North Port is on the Myakka River , borders the Myakka River State Park, and is very close to the Florida Gulf Coast . The city is about 40 km south of Sarasota and 120 km south of Tampa . North Port is the largest city in the Sarasota metropolitan area .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 57,357 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 27,986 households. The population density was 296.1 inh / km². 87.6% of the population identified themselves as white , 7.0% as African American , 0.3% as Native American, and 1.2% as Asian Americans . 1.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 8.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 32.1% of all households lived in 32.9% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 72.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.55 people and the average family size was 2.95 people.

26.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 24.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 41 years. 48.8% of the population were male and 51.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 49,026, with 9.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 88.50% of the population, 3.15% spoke Spanish and 8.35% had another mother tongue.

North Port is crossed by Interstate 75 and the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 ). The nearest airport is Sarasota – Bradenton International Airport (around 55 km north).
