Osterbruch (spoken: Easter with long o like Easter , break with long u like in book ; ( Low German Osterbrook )) is a municipality in Lower Saxony in the state of Hadeln in the district of Cuxhaven .

Geographical location

Affected area during a "small" storm surge of only 4.50 m when a dike breached at Glameyer-Stack, Otterndorf. With the assumptions assumed here, Osterbruch would probably get off lightly, but it is to be feared that worse conditions will also lead to flooding in the community.

Osterbruch is in the Niederelbe area .

The proximity to the Elbe estuary and the North Sea entail the risk that in the event of a dike breach during a storm surge , large parts of the municipality, which is a maximum of 2 m above sea level, could be flooded. One possible scenario is described in the article Glameyer Stack .

Osterbruch consists of the districts of Norderende (Lower German Noorderenn ), Nubhusen (Lower German Ophusen ) and Süderende (Lower German Süderenn ) with pig's head (Lower German Swienskopp ).

history

Document mentions

Osterbruch was first mentioned in documents in 1207 under the name "Osterbrok" , when the church was donated to the Bremen Cathedral Chapter by Archbishop Hartwig II of Bremen . This church is dedicated to St. Peter.

Inclusions

On December 17, 1969, at a meeting of the council, the unanimous resolution was passed that the Osterbruch community would join the Hadeln community with its seat in Otterndorf with effect from January 1, 1970 . The draft public law agreements and the main statutes of the joint municipality were consequently approved. The integrated community initially consisted of the communities Neuenkirchen , Nordleda , Wanna and the city of Otterndorf. In 1972, however, Wanna left the association of the Hadeln Samtgemeinde and joined the Sietland Samtgemeinde .

Municipal council

The council of the Osterbruch community consists of seven councilors and councilors. This is the specified number for the member municipality of an integrated municipality with a population of up to 500 inhabitants. The council members are elected for a five-year term by local elections. The current term of office began on November 1, 2016 and ends on October 31, 2021.

Monuments

One of the most famous horses in Germany comes from Osterbruch, the show jumping horse Deister became a household name for good horse breeding in the country of Hadeln under Paul Schockemöhle and received a small memorial by the sculptor Frijo Müller-Belecke in the center of the village .

museum

Mill museum: In the "Schweinskopf" district there is an intact gallery Dutch windmill from 1871. It was repaired in the 1980s by two private individuals and since 1988 it has hosted a comprehensive mill exhibition. This mill, which has been restored down to the last detail, has two holiday apartments that are integrated into the mill (e.g. the grinder or the wooden gear are part of the common rooms).
