Oliver Schenk (politician)

Oliver Schenk (born August 14, 1968 in Dachau ) is a German economist , political official and politician ( CDU ). He has been Minister of State for Federal and European Affairs and Head of the Saxon State Chancellery since December 18, 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Schenk studied economics in Münster and became a graduate economist . Schenk then worked from 1994 to 1999 in the Saxon State Ministry for the Environment and Regional Development . From 1999 to 2002 he was first speechwriter and then office manager of the finance minister. Then from 2002 to 2005 he was office manager of the Saxon Prime Minister Georg Milbradt and also acted as his speechwriter during this time. From 2005 to 2009 he was then head of department in the Saxon State Chancellery . When Stanislaw Tillich took office as Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony, Schenk moved to the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior . From 2010 he became head of the CDU federal office in Berlin , before he became head of the department of fundamental questions of health policy and telematics in the Federal Ministry of Health in 2014 .

On December 18, 2017, Oliver Schenk was appointed Minister of State for Federal and European Affairs and Head of the Saxon State Chancellery in the Kretschmer I cabinet by the newly elected Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer . He succeeded Fritz Jaeckel . In the Kretschmer II cabinet , which was formed on December 20, 2019, he became head of the State Chancellery and Saxon State Minister for Federal Affairs and the Media. He has been a member of the Federal Council since January 9, 2018 . As the representative of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, Oliver Schenk is a member of the Kuratorium of the Kurt Wolff Foundation .
