Burma took part in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, with a delegation of eleven male athletes in eleven competitions in four sports.

It was Burma's third participation in the Summer Olympic Games .

The youngest athlete was the boxer Yaishwe Best (17 years and 141 days), the oldest athlete was the sailor Gyi Khin Pe (40 years and 141 days).
