Osikowo ( German  Leitnerswalde ) is a small settlement in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to Gmina Srokowo (Drengfurth) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ).

Geographical location

The small forest settlement ( Polish Mała osada leśna ) is located in the northern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, 22 kilometers northeast of the district town of Kętrzyn ( German  Rastenburg ).

history

Leitnerswalde originally consisted of only one large yard and was founded on February 28, 1816 as Waldhaus Leitnerswalde by Counselor Leitner from Angerburg (Polish : Węgorzewo ). Before 1908, the small town was incorporated into the Jäglack district ( Jegławki in Polish ) in the East Prussian district of Rastenburg . Leitnerswalde had 43 inhabitants in 1885, 28 in 1905 and 54 in 1910.

On August 17, 1915, the Leitnerswalde manor district was incorporated into the Marschallsheide manor district ( Marszałki in Polish ), which was then incorporated into Wolfshagen ( Wilczyny in Polish ) on September 30, 1928 .

The Leitnerswalde forest consisted of a wide forest area that bordered the Marschallsheide . In the deepest thicket there was an island surrounded by swamp, to which the Wolfshagen farmers rescued their cattle in Napoleon's time . During the Second World War , a Soviet radio department hid there in 1944 , which had got there by parachute jump .

In 1945, as a result of the war, all of southern East Prussia and with it Leitnerswalde came to Poland . The place received the Polish name form "Osikowo" and is today a place in the network of the rural community Srokowo (Drengfurth) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship belongs.

church

Until 1945 Leitnerswalde was parish in the Evangelical Parish Church of Drengfurth in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic Church of St. Katharina Rastenburg with the branch chapel Drengfurth in the then Diocese of Warmia .

Today Osikowo belongs to the Catholic parish Srokowo in the current Archdiocese of Warmia , as well as to the Evangelical Church Srokowo , a branch church of the Johanneskirche Kętrzyn in the Diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

traffic

Osikowo is located north of a side road that leads from Wilczyny (Wolfshagen) to Marszałki (Marschallsheide) . From the north, a country road leads from Łęknica (Löcknick) to the small forest settlement. There is no connection to rail traffic .
