Paul Alexandre Belmondo (born April 23, 1963 in Boulogne-Billancourt , Île-de-France ) is a former French racing car driver and racing team owner who drove in Formula 1 for March Engineering and Pacific Racing .

Career

Monoposto

Belmondo was active in Formula 3 and Formula 3000 , but could not finish a race in the top ten in either of the two classes. In 1992 he drove as a " pay driver " (a driver who pays for his starts) for March in Formula 1; ninth place at the Hungarian Grand Prix was his best result.

In the 1992 Formula 1 World Championship he was able to qualify four more times before running out of money and being replaced by Emanuele Naspetti . Two years later he tried a comeback in Formula 1 with the non-competitive Pacific Racing team . He only qualified twice for one race and each performed worse than his team-mate Bertrand Gachot .

GT and sports cars

Belmondo later started in the FIA GT championship . He drove a Chrysler Viper GTS-R and took part in the Le Mans Series with his own racing team, Paul Belmondo Racing . He competed ten times in the Le Mans 24-hour race . His best place in the overall ranking was 17th in 1999 .

Private

Belmondo is the son of the actor Jean-Paul Belmondo . Around 1991 he was in a relationship with Princess Stéphanie of Monaco .
