Cercado is a province in the northeastern part of the Oruro department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

The province of Cercado is one of sixteen provinces in the Oruro department. It lies between 17 ° 22 'and 18 ° 35' south latitude and between 66 ° 21 'and 67 ° 20' west longitude .

It borders in the northwest with the province of Tomas Barrón , with the department La Paz and with the province Nor Carangas , in the southwest with the province Saucarí , in the southeast with the province Poopó and with the province Pantaleón Dalence , and in the east and north with the department Cochabamba .

The province extends from north to south over 135 kilometers and from east to west over 105 kilometers.

The population of the province of Cercado has increased by about half in the past two decades:

The province's most important idiom is Spanish , spoken by 96.7 percent of the population, followed by Quechua (43.3 percent) and Aymara (25.5 percent). ( 2001 )

18.6 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 67.5 percent live without sanitary facilities ( 1992 ).

16.3 percent of the workforce work in agriculture, 1.8 percent in mining, 11.9 percent in industry, 70.0 percent in the service sector ( 2001 ).

83.0 percent of the population are Catholic, 13.5 percent are Protestant ( 1992 ).
