Cercado is a province in the central part of the Tarija department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
location
The province of Cercado is one of six provinces in the Tarija department. It lies between 21 ° 15 'and 21 ° 51' south latitude and between 64 ° 20 'and 65 ° 00' west longitude .
The province is bordered by the province of Eustaquio Méndez in the northwest, the province of José María Avilés in the southwest , the province of Aniceto Arce in the south , and the province of Burnet O'Connor in the east .
The province extends over a length of 80 kilometers in north-south direction and over 80 kilometers in east-west direction.
geography
The province of Cercado is conveniently located between the country's different climatic zones, on the edge of the Andes at around 1,900 m above sea level. NN., So that mostly mild and pleasant weather prevails. In the rainy season between December and February (summer months) there are frequent torrential thunderstorms. The landscape has been eroded by the centuries of clearing and the city is framed by a mountain range with little vegetation. A lot of agriculture is practiced in the area around the city, including expanding viticulture . The natural gas produced outside the province is of great importance for the region .
In the area of the province of Cercado there is the Lago San Jacinto reservoir , which is also a popular destination. The exhibition grounds are also located there. Once a year the large trade and industry exhibition ExpoSur (also called FexpoSur ) takes place there.

99.4 percent of the population speak Spanish , 11.5 percent Quechua , 2.4 percent Aymara , and 0.2 percent Guaraní . ( 1992 )
26.0 percent of the population have no access to electricity , 39.4 percent live without sanitary facilities ( 1992 ).
12.2 percent of the workforce work in agriculture , 0.1 percent in mining , 11.5 percent in industry , 76.2 percent in the service sector ( 2001 ).
89.6 percent of the population are Catholic , 6.3 percent are Protestant ( 1992 ).
