House of Representatives (Burma)

The House of Representatives ( Burmese ပြည်သူ့ လွှတ်တော် Pyithu Hluttaw , pjìðṵ l̥ʊʔtɔ ) is the lower house of the Assembly of the Union ( Pyidaungsu Hluttaw ), the two-chamber parliament of Burma ( Myanmar ).

It has a total of 440 members, 330 of whom are directly elected and 110 are appointed by the Armed Forces of Burma . The first elections for the new House of Representatives took place in November 2010 , the last election took place with the by-elections on April 1, 2012 . At their first meeting on January 31, 2011, Thura Shwe Mann was elected by the Solidarity and Development Party of the Union (SEPU) as Speaker of the House of Representatives, while Nanda Kyaw Swa , also from the SEPU , became his deputy .

The other chamber next to the House of Representatives is the House of Nationalities .
