The Runenweg is a 74-kilometer long- distance hiking trail in North Rhine-Westphalia that connects the East Westphalian town of Porta Westfalica in the Minden-Lübbecke district with the community of Schlangen in the Lippe district.

From the Porta Westfalica ( Westfälische Pforte ; ), the breakthrough of the Weser - here it separates the Wiehengebirge from the Wesergebirge , the route runs via Veltheim (Weser ferry; ), Varenholz , Langenholzhausen , Hohenhausen , Bavenhausen , Lemgo ( ) and Horn- Bad Meinberg past the Externsteinen ( ) to the “Kreuzkrug” in Schlangen ( ). The trail leads the hiker from the Weserbergland through the Lipper Bergland to the Teutoburg Forest .

Labelling

The Runenweg with the signpost -Markierung  X  and - where appropriate - the path number "7" (  X7  in).

The rune path is looked after by the members of the Teutoburg Forest Association .
