Breslauer SC 08 - Southeast German runner-up in 1929

The southeast German soccer championship 1928/29 was the eighteenth edition of the southeast German soccer championship of the Southeast German Football Association (SOFV). The championship was won for the first time by SC Preußen Zaborze on points in the final tournament. By winning this association championship, the club qualified for the German football championship 1928/29 , in which it was eliminated after a 1: 8 defeat at the Jahnstadion in Gleiwitz against Hertha BSC .

The Breslauer SC 08 prevailed in the playoffs as runner-up and was also allowed to take part in this year's German championship. In the round of 16, the Breslau team beat VfB Königsberg in Königsberg 1: 2. The opponent in the quarter-finals was the South German runner-up FC Bayern Munich . After a close game, the Munich team were defeated 4: 3 at home after extra time and thus the entry into the semi-finals was celebrated. The striker Fritz Blaschke , who scored all three goals for the Silesians in regular time, played a key role in this success for the Breslau team. In the semifinals, however, the future German champions SpVgg Fürth proved to be too strong and Breslau lost 6-1 in the Frankfurt Waldstadion . Reaching the semi-finals in the German championship represents the greatest success for a club from the Southeast German Football Association . The United Breslauer Sportfreunde could also reach the semi-finals in 1920, but this championship only began in the quarter-finals due to the smaller number of teams.
