history
On July 30, 1898, the Felix Singer & Co. AG company in Berlin received an order from the city to build a tram and a power station in Stralsund. For this purpose, the Helios-Elektricitäts-AG founded the Elektricitätswerk und Straßenbahn AG Stralsund in Cologne on June 16, 1900 as a wholly-owned subsidiary. When the Helios company went into liquidation in 1910, the AG für Elektricitäts-Anlagen in Berlin took over the entire share capital. After the First World War , the city of Stralsund took a 25% stake in the company, whose main shareholder until 1945 was Elektro Licht- und Kraftanlagen in Berlin with 75% of the capital . After the Second World War, the city of Stralsund became the sole owner of the tram and electrical works. After several changes via VEB (K) Verkehrsbetriebe Stralsund , the tram came to VEB Kraftverkehr und Spedition Stralsund on July 5, 1961 .
Tram and omnibus (1899–1966)
On June 15, 1899, the construction of the tram began in Stralsund, which was then the seat of a district government in the Prussian province of Pomerania . On March 25, 1900, the electric tram was put into operation in Stralsund, which at that time had around 31,000 inhabitants. The railway connected the main station with the old town, the port station, the Kniepervorstadt and the Frankenvorstadt. Due to inflation , operations were stopped on November 20, 1922 and only resumed in August 1924. In July 1928 bus routes were added. When the Rügen dam was put into operation for rail traffic in 1936 , the port station was shut down. Tram line 1 now only went to the Frankenfriedhof; the track in Hafenstrasse only served as an entrance to the depot. The statistics for 1939 show 13 railcars and a network of 4.6 kilometers in length, as well as nine omnibuses.
During the Second World War , during the bombing of Stralsund on October 6, 1944 , the tram depot and many tram cars were also destroyed, so that tram operations had to be stopped. He could not be resumed until December 23, 1947. In September 1951 a bus service was carried out again.
Despite the addition of six railcars, the tram lines were not expanded further - the increasing traffic in the narrow streets of the old town prevented the tram from being expanded. The tram lines were withdrawn in favor of omnibus lines. For this purpose, additional buses were purchased between 1959 and 1966. On August 1, 1960, the tram between the main station and Heilgeiststrasse was shut down. On April 7, 1966, the last tram ran in Stralsund. The tram traffic was completely given up in favor of the bus operation.
Bus operation (since 1966)
Articulated buses of the Ikarus 180 type were used from 1969 . Between 1973 and 1975 Ikarus 260 and 280 buses and LiAS 677 buses were added to the fleet. In 1987, the buses of VEB Ostseetrans Stralsund , which belongs to the Ostseetrans combine, carried more than 20 million passengers in city traffic.
The following lines were served in the 1980s:
- Line 2: Tierpark (later Grünhufe) - Central Station - Rügen Dam - Altefähr
- Line 3: Knieper West I / Knieper West III (later Grünhufe) - Heinrich-Heine-Ring - Mozartstraße - Knieperdamm - Hauptbahnhof - Frankendamm - Andershof / Devin / Andershof expansion
- Line 4: Knieper West I / Knieper West III - Heinrich-Heine-Ring - Große Parower Straße - Knieper Damm - Kniepertor - Central Station - Alte Richtenberger Straße - Lüssower Berg / Lüssow
- Line 5: Parow - Heinrich-Heine-Ring - Große Parower Straße - Knieper Damm - Kniepertor - Central Station - West Hospital / Langendorf / Happy Work division
The courses of the amplifier lines 1 (feeder Kniepertor) and 6 (feeder Volkswerft) changed frequently.
In 1990 VEB Ostseetrans was renamed Ostseetrans-Verkehrs-AG . The Kieler Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft (KVAG) presented to the transport company of twinned older buses available; In 1991 the first new MAN buses were bought. In 1992 the newly founded Stadtwerke Stralsund took over the transport company of the Hanseatic city. The last Ikarus buses were eliminated in 1994; In the same year, 35 used Mercedes-Benz O 305 buses were taken over from Kiel for the last time ; the last bus of this purchase was taken out of service in autumn 2002. In the same year, the company moved into the depot in the Lüdershagen industrial park, and the official inauguration took place in 1995.
From 1997 to November 30, 2010, ticket machines were used in all local buses. In the same year, collective call taxis (AST) were introduced, which ensure night-time operation on the routes that are then less busy.
The transport Stralsund GmbH was restructured 1998th This went hand in hand with a reduction in the number of routes and fewer journeys, as well as a reduction in the number of buses from 52 to 34. In 2000, five million passengers were carried; in 2004 there were 5,061,465 passengers.
Nahverkehr Stralsund GmbH , which belongs to the Stadtwerke Stralsund GmbH group of companies , or SWS for short, was renamed SWS Nahverkehr GmbH in 2007 .
On December 1, 2010, a new distribution system was introduced. Passengers have the option of purchasing the entire range of tickets from the driver, instead of buying them from machines as was previously the case. Since then, entry has only been possible at the front of the driver.
On December 9, 2010, the control center was equipped with a computer-aided operations control system. It is now possible to track the current location of the individual vehicles via GPS.
In 2014, the district of Vorpommern Rügen merged SWS Nahverkehr GmbH with KVG Ribnitz Damgarten and RPNV GmbH to form Verkehrsgesellschaft Vorpommern-Rügen mbH (VVR mbH) .
