In the 14th century, Mesnil was subordinate to the Seigneur of La Poterie-Mathieu . After 1376 that was Hugues de Bethencourt, who was also Seigneur of La Léqueraye. In 1433 Mesnil came into the possession of the Vipart family through marriage. In 1472 the noble Jean Barrey from Bernay was Seigneur of Mesnil. In 1531 there were disputes over property rights between the Vipart family and Yves Barrey. Jacques Barrey donated five acres of land to Notre-Dame de Bernay Abbey in 1578.
