Schönbrunn is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Bad Staffelstein in the Lichtenfels district .

geography

The village lies between Bad Staffelstein and Lichtenfels in the valley of the Ober mains in the so-called God's garden . In the place are among other things well sources, which are fed by precipitation on the northwest slope side of the Staffelberg massif. The groundwater flows above impermeable clayey layers of earth in gravelly layers that end with springs in Schönbrunn.

history

Schönbrunn was first mentioned in 1125 in a document with the witness Pabo de “Sconenbrunnen”. To the west of the village is Schönbrunn Castle , a tower hill that was probably a moated castle and the residence of the noble free de Sconenbrunnen. In 1262 the moated castle was donated to Langheim Abbey . In 1317 the noble free von Schönbrunn family died out. The place name can be interpreted as a settlement on the Lauteren Quellbach.

In 1801, Schönbrunn consisted of the parish hall, the community smithy and a shepherd's house of 23 princely , six long- term local , three Banzian , two Staffelstein parish, one Michelberg , one fragment, and two domestic Redwitz senior citizen loans . The state sovereignty, tithe, village, community and land rulership as well as the Vogteilichkeit on the princely and Staffelsteiner parish feuds belonged to the Lichtenfels office. In 1862 Schönbrunn was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office Staffelstein .

In 1871 Schönbrunn had 282 residents and 174 buildings. There was a Catholic school in the place. The Catholic Church was in Staffelstein, 2.2 kilometers away. In 1900 the rural community of Schönbrunn covered an area of ​​291.48 hectares, 254 inhabitants, of whom 248 were Catholic, and 50 residential buildings. The Protestant school and church were located in Herreth, 5.7 kilometers away .

In 1925, 276 people lived in 48 residential buildings, in 1950 there were 358 residents and 48 residential buildings. In 1970 the place had 380 inhabitants and in 1987 442 inhabitants and 114 residential buildings.

On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved. Since then, Schönbrunn has belonged to the Lichtenfels district. On January 1, 1977, the community of Schönbrunn was incorporated as a district in the city of Staffelstein.
