Schleswig-Holstein Gourmet Festival

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schleswig-Holstein Gourmet Festival ( SHGF for short ) is a series of culinary events founded in 1987 , which has been organized by the cooperation Gastliches Wikingland e. V. is carried out. The season of the oldest gourmet festival in Germany, according to the Marco Polo travel guide the flagship of gourmet cuisine in Schleswig-Holstein , starts in September and ends in March of the following year.

Procedure and focus

Depending on the number of member companies and thus events, it is visited by up to 3,000 guests. Each event takes place in a member company (hotel / restaurant) in which a guest chef is responsible for the evening's menu with the support of the hotel's kitchen team. The guest chefs from Germany and Europe vary per season. The focus of the nationally and internationally known festival is on regional and seasonal cuisine with the inclusion of Schleswig-Holstein products.

history

The forerunner of the festival was the event Nordische Tafelfreuden , launched in 1986 by restaurateur Hans Hansen-Mörck (1933–1994) , which was continued in the media a year later with the 1st Schleswig-Holstein Gourmet Festival at the Historisches Krug in Oeversee . On this occasion, the patent applicant Hansen-Mörck published a cookbook . Since 1987 the festival has been run by the cooperation Gastliches Wikingland e. V. organized annually. Klaus-Peter Willhöft has been president of the cooperation since 1991.

The cooperation was founded in 1987 from twelve companies that were entertaining guests at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in the country. In 1989 it was expanded to include all of Schleswig-Holstein. Today 15 companies from all parts of the state are part of the cooperation. In the last few decades, the number of star restaurants in Schleswig-Holstein has almost doubled and the northernmost federal state, according to the news channel n-tv 2011, “has become a holiday destination for gourmets”. The Schleswig-Holstein Gourmet Festival brought "a breath of fresh air into [the] northern German cuisine" ( Zeit Online 2005), which was previously called "heavy, fat [and] unimaginative" (n-tv 2011) when it came to Schleswig-Holstein cuisine ) was true.

In 2000 the “Tour de Gourmet Jeunesse” was introduced. It is aimed at young gourmets between 18 and 35 years of age. Only 40 young guests can take part in the communicative restaurant hopping and get to know three member houses on seasonal routes. In the 29th season of the SHGF, the "Tour de Gourmet Solitaire" was established as a new concept for the large target group of single travelers aged 40 and over. Here, too, the routes to three member companies change seasonally and the way the dishes are presented is different in each establishment to make it easier to get to know each other. The opening gala of the festival is a little different than the regular events. Internationally trend-setting top chefs work together with two chefs from their own member companies to turn the 5-course menu, including a relaxed diner party, into a culinary experience.

Guest chefs

As of the 31st SHGF 2017/2018, 17 guest chefs from Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Estonia are at the stoves of 14 member companies. The four leading German-speaking restaurant guides combine: 23 Michelin stars , 203.5 points in Gault-Millau , 101 gourmet pans and 58 gourmet points. The guest chefs are made up differently every season - from established and new chefs. Only the top German chef Harald Wohlfahrt has been a constant guest chef in the orangery at the Maritim Seehotel in Timmendorfer Strand since 1990 .

The guest chefs who have performed at the Schleswig-Holstein Gourmet Festival so far include:
