Schwadorf is a market town with 2208 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Bruck an der Leitha district in Lower Austria .

geography

Schwadorf, where the political municipality is congruent with the cadastral municipality , is located in the industrial district in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the market town covers 11.37 square kilometers. 11.97 percent of the area is forested; the Schwadorfer forest extends in the direction of Rauchwarth . The center of Schwadorf is on the left bank of the Fischa .

history

In ancient times the area was part of the province of Pannonia . Located in the Austrian heartland of Lower Austria, the place was part of the history of Austria . During the Third Reich , the place was incorporated into Greater Vienna as part of the newly created 23rd district, Schwechat . The municipality became independent again in 1954 when it separated from Vienna.

From 1954 until its dissolution at the end of December 2016, Schwadorf was part of the Vienna-Umgebung district .

1927 earthquake

On October 8, 1927 at 8:49 p.m. there was an earthquake with an epicentral intensity of 8 ° EMS-98 with the epicenter in Schwadorf, one of the strongest recorded earthquakes in the Vienna Basin . The strong earthquake damaged “all houses […], schools, rectory, house number 32/33 (gendarmerie), kindergarten, community inn and 10 other buildings, some of them irreparably dilapidated; both chimneys and the water tower of the cotton mill must be removed ”. Neighboring towns such as Enzersdorf ad Fischa were also affected. Even in Vienna there was slight damage to buildings.

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census , there were 1,768 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1,692 inhabitants, in 1981 1,488 and in 1971 1,500 inhabitants.

Sports

The soccer club ASK Schwadorf played in the 2007/08 season in the first division and was then renamed FC Trenkwalder Admira .

Economy and Infrastructure

In 2001 there were 76 non-agricultural workplaces and 30 agricultural and forestry holdings according to a survey from 1999. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment in the place of residence was 860. The employment rate in 2001 was 49.15 percent.
