Ali Rıza Sergen Yalçın (born October 5, 1972 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player and commentator who now works as a football coach. He was the first player to play for all four of Turkey's major teams. According to him, only Burak Yılmaz succeeded in this feat . He worked for a while as a football expert on a sports program on the channel Kanalturk.

Player career

He started his career at Beşiktaş Istanbul . After the years with Beşiktaş, he moved to İstanbulspor for a transfer fee of 5 million Turkish Lira (today's value) . During his playing days he was considered one of the best players in Turkey. His most successful years were with Besiktas. Many top European clubs have been interested in him during his career, including a. Inter Milan, AC Milan, Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona. Sergen, however, had a very dissolute private life (horse racing, sports betting, nightlife) and was generally considered lazy to train and rather difficult to deal with, so that it never worked out with a big move to a top European club. His nickname was Süper Solak ( German super links foot ). He is also considered a free kick specialist and has had many directly converted free kicks in his career.

With his goal from the league game against Kayseri Erciyesspor on August 6, 2005, Yalçın scored his 100th first division goal and made it into the 100 club of the highest Turkish division.

Coaching career

From 2008 Yalçın worked at his old club Beşiktaş Istanbul as a youth coach. In the summer of 2009 he took over the reserve team of the club with Beşiktaş A2.

In November 2013 he accepted the offer from the Turkish first division club Gaziantepspor and thus worked for the first time as head coach. On March 25, 2014, Yalçın resigned as coach of Gaziantepspor.

On December 23, 2014, Yalçın became head coach at Sivasspor . On October 24, 2015, his contract with Sivasspor was terminated. For the last three game days Yalçın was again head coach of Gaziantepspor and managed to stay with his team. In January 2017 Yalçın became the head coach of Kayserispor and reached relegation with him at the end of the season. Then one was for a period of about two months at the second division Eskişehirspor .

After further stints at the relegation-threatened clubs Konyaspor and Alanyaspor , with whom he achieved relegation, he was hired as the new head coach for the first division and Europa League participant Yeni Malatyaspor for the 2019/20 season . After a 4-0 defeat against Sivasspor in the round of 16 of the Turkish Football Cup and already poor results in the Süper Lig , Yalçın was dismissed from his post on January 15, 2020 with immediate effect. Sergen Yalçın was hired as the new head coach for Beşiktaş Istanbul on January 29, 2020 .

Private

In the meantime, he was also a member of the jury of the popular TV show Yetenek sizsiniz (similar to the show Das Supertalent ) from 2012-2013 .
