Set It Off is a pop-punk / alternative rock band from Tampa , Florida, founded in 2008 . The group has been under contract with Equal Vision Records since 2011 and released the three albums Cinematics from 2012, Duality in 2014 and "Upside Down" in 2016 through the label. In addition, the EP Horrible Kids was released in 2011 through the record company .

prehistory
Cody Carson and Dan Clermont attended the same high school and played together in the school marching band . Carson also played in a local band with Austin Kerr and Zach DeWall. The band broke up after Carson enrolled at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music to study classical clarinet. Through contact with Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low , the urge to start a rock band grew. Shortly after college failed, he moved back to Tampa , Florida with the money he had saved .
Foundation and first publications
After Carson returned from Ohio , he formed Set It Off! With high school friends Austin Kerr and Zach DeWall. Dan Clermont, who had been friends with Carson since high school, also joined them. Carson took over the post of lead vocalist, DeWall initially lead guitarist , Clermont took over the rhythm guitar and Kerr became the band's bassist . The musicians found their first drummer in James Arran . However, he left the band because he was unable to participate in the band for a long time due to financial difficulties. He was succeeded by Blake Howell, who, however, did not stay with Set It Off! For long due to family problems. was active. Howell was eventually replaced by Benji Panico on drums.
In October of the founding year, the first EP called Baby, You Don't Tripajaharda was released , which the group financed out of pocket. This was followed by the release of the second EP, Calm Before the Storm , which was also self-produced in May 2009. Benji Panico left the group in 2010. A permanent replacement was found in Maxx Danziger.
Signed by Equal Vision Records, Horrible Kids and Cinematics
On July 19, 2011, the band was signed by the US record company Equal Vision Records with the announcement that the group's third EP, which was released in June, would be re-released on August 30, 2011 via the label Horrible Kids would be.
In July 2012, the debut album Cinematics was announced. For the release, the band began a partnership with VH1 Save the Music Foundation . A joint campaign was started in which US $ 1 for each record sold during the pre-order phase was donated to VH1 until September 23, 2012 to support music programs in schools. In the end, the band themselves contributed an amount to the campaign, through which the goal of donating 5000 US dollars could be realized. Equal Vision Records has pledged to double the amount should Cinematics reach # 1 on Billboard's US Heatseekers chart . This was not achieved, although the album even entered the official US album charts at number 174 . On June 25, 2013, Cinematics was reissued with additional material.
From September 4 to 11, 2012, the group played a tour of Canada with Sparks the Rescue , which included six appearances. Three days later the group was on tour with There for Tomorrow . Between December 4th and 21st of the same year, Set It Off! Part of Every Avenue's farewell tour . Set It Off! Toured with Yellowcard and Like Torches in March and February 2013 for the first time through several European countries . The group spent the summer of 2013 on most of the concerts on the Warped Tour . In October 2013, the group was seen supporting Tonight Alive in the UK . In addition, Fearless Records released the compilation Punk Goes Christmas in October , which contains an original set-it-off! Song called This Christmas (I'll Burn It to the Ground) .
Duality
On January 2nd, 2014 the label Equal Vision Records announced that the musicians are already working on their second album with producer John Feldmann . The group worked with several producers in Los Angeles , California , including Brandon Paddock, Tommy English and Matt Appleton, after the musicians dropped out of Feldmann due to insurmountable differences. The album, which bears the name Duality , was released on October 14, 2014 and debuted at number 86 in the US album charts. The compilation Punk Goes Pop Vol. 6 was also released in 2014 for Set It Off! contributed a cover version of Ariana Grande's hit single Problem . On June 23, 2015, Duality: Stories Unplugged , an unplugged EP, was released. Founding member and bassist Austin Kerr left the band in 2015, so that rhythm guitarist Zach DeWall also took over the post of bassist.
Set It Off! was part of the Reunion tour of the rock band We Are the In Crowd , which took place in spring 2014 , along with the State Champs . The group later co-headlined the Come Alive Tour with Our Last Night and supported Black Veil Brides and Falling in Reverse as part of the Black Mass Tour in October and November 2014 . In February 2015, the group was the main act on the Glamor Kills Spring Break Tour , which ran through the United States and was accompanied by Against the Current and As It Is . The group previously played with Crown the Empire on the Rise of the Runaways Tour . In May 2015 the group played their first headlining European tour , shortly afterwards the group played four concerts in Japan for the first time . In the summer the band played the entire Warped Tour . Between March 1 and 28, 2016, the group played again with Tonight Alive , this time as part of the Fight for Something Tour , which was also accompanied by The Ready Set and the singer-songwriter SayWeCanFly . In addition, the band was announced again for the Warped Tour .
style
At the beginning of the band's career, Set It Off! a version of synth pop with influences from pop punk . Today the group describes their music as "orchestral pop-punk", although a large part of the orchestral sounds in musical recordings are still generated by synthesizers instead of classical instruments. British Kerrang! Magazine described the music on Set It Off! simply as pop-rock .
The group's musical influences include artists such as A Day to Remember , All Time Low , My Chemical Romance , Four Year Strong , Fall Out Boy , New Found Glory , Forever the Sickest Kids , Relient K , * NSYNC , We the Kings and Destiny's Child .
