Spálov ( German Sponau ) is a minor town with 921 inhabitants and belongs to the Okres Nový Jičín in the Moravskoslezský kraj region in the Czech Republic .
location
Spálov is located about 11 kilometers northeast of the village Potštát and about 23 kilometers north of the town of Hranice na Moravě .
history
Spálov was first mentioned in writing in 1394. From the first half of the 14th century until 1611 the estate was part of the neighboring Potštát domain . In 1560 a parish school was established in Spálov. In 1611 Bernard Podstadtsky von Prusinowitz on Potštát sold the villages of Spálov, Luboměř and Barnov to Christina von Rogendorf and Mollenburg († 1621), who sided with the estates at the time of the Battle of White Mountain.
The place was devastated in the Thirty Years War, in particular by the troops of Peter Ernst II von Mansfeld . In 1650 a part of Spálov belonged to the women's monastery Heavenly Gate in Vienna . Kaspar von Scherz received this half from the Virgins to the Heavenly Gate in 1670 , after he had previously received the other half (1667) from Constantia, widow of Freiherr von Landau, born Freiherr von Stadel .
In 1832 the place was raised to a market town in the Hranice na Moravě district in the Nový Jičín district.
After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Reich and belonged to the Neu Titschein district until 1945 .
On December 1, 2006, the village received the status of Městyse .
population
In 1771 the place was called mixed-language (Czech and German), in 1786 the inhabitants were called German Silesians . From the 19th century, Spálov had a purely Czech population. According to Wolny, 1217 inhabitants with Catholic denominations lived in Spálov in 1835 .
