Location of Altenbücken in Lower Saxony |
Altenbücken ( Low German Olenbücken ) is a district of the borough stooping in Nienburg / Weser in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).
geography
Altenbücken is 19 kilometers north of the district town of Nienburg / Weser and four kilometers south of Hoya in the marshland of the Weser , into which the Bückener Mühlenbach flows here.
The village of Altenbücken, with the hamlet of Stendern to the southeast , is 8.8 km² in size and has around 450 inhabitants.
history
The name "Altenbücken" indicates that the place is older than the neighboring Bücken, whose pen took over the place name. In the writings of the Bremen bishop Ansgar from the year 860, the place is mentioned as "Bokkenhusen". In these writings the miraculous healings of Saint Willehad are reported, which are said to have taken place in the period after 789. Altenbücken has been part of the municipality of Bücken since March 1st, 1974 . In September 2010 the place celebrated its 1150th anniversary.
Hodenberg Castle
In the northern part of Altenbücken, the "Veste Hodenberg", which was also called "borg to der Hude", was located on an island-like elevation in the Wesermarsch from 882 to around 1206. This Niederungsburg was the medieval ancestral seat of the noble family von Hodenberg , who were the guardians of the Bücken monastery until they were expelled by the up-and-coming Count von Hoya . A memorial ( boulder with coat of arms and inscription ) between Bücker Beeke and the left bank of the Weser marks the place where the Burgstall is located.
Stendern
Stendern ( Low German Stennern ), located in the southern part of Altenbücken , has always been related to Bücken Abbey. Here was one of the “ Siebenmeierhöfe ” where the canons lived. From 985 a noble family "those von Stendern" is mentioned, which still flourished in the 16th century . In 1929 the formerly independent community of Stendern was incorporated into Altenbücken. Stendern is cut off from the outside world at irregular intervals by the Weser floods. So that the approx. 20 residents do not get their feet wet, all houses were built on small, optically barely noticeable, elevations. The supply of the residents is then ensured by tractors of the local farmers.
