The Strada Statale 11 Padana Superiore ( SS 11 for short ) was one of the most important and longest state roads in northern Italy . It was an approximately 430 km long west-east traffic axis in the upper Po Valley (hence the name Padana Superiore ), which connected Turin to Venice via Milan , Brescia and Verona and led through the regions of Piedmont , Lombardy and Veneto . At Verona the SS 11 crossed with the Brenner State Road SS 12 . The latter connects Central Europe with Tuscany .

The maintenance of the partly six-lane trunk road was handed over in 2001 by the Italian road company ANAS to the regions mentioned, which they downgraded to regional or state roads.
