history

The settlement, laid out as a street village, was first mentioned in a document in 1235 as "Turndorf". Whether the defining word of the place name is the Middle High German word turn (tower) or the Germanic personal name Thuro cannot be clarified. Whether the nobleman Henricus de Turndorf was resident in the place also remains unclear, as no traces of a fortified complex can be found. The settlement could have arisen between the 9th and 11th centuries as part of the land development.

In 1279, with the consent of his wife Hedwig , castellan Siboto Grötsch of Nuremberg gave the Heilsbronn a . a. a fiefdom in "Torrndorf". In 1311 Gottfried and Kunigunde von Heideck sold five farms in Turndorf to the 13th Abbot Heinrich.

In the 16-point report of the Heilsbronn monastery office from 1608, 5 farmers and 1 shepherd were specified for Thurndorf who were subordinate to the Heilsbronn monastery administration office. The other landlords are not listed. In the Thirty Years' War four of the heilsbronnischen farms were burned.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 6 properties and a community shepherd's house in Thurndorf. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Hofkastenamt Ansbach . The village and township government had the monastery stewardship Heilsbronn held. The sole landlord was the Principality of Ansbach (Heilsbronn monastery administration office: 5 courtyards; Ansbach monastery : 1 half courtyard ). From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach .

As part of the community edict, Thurndorf was assigned to the Vestenberg tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community Vestenberg, founded in 1811 . This was dissolved in the course of the regional reform on May 1, 1978 and, apart from Thurndorf, incorporated into Petersaurach . Thurndorf was incorporated into Weihenzell.
