The Kirchplatz underground station (abbreviation: Kip) is a station on the Düsseldorf Stadtbahn . It lies in the course of the third main route, the so-called Wehrhahn Line, in the Unterbilk district of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf . The preparatory work for construction of the new subway station began in May 2008. It was for the shell, the cover design as a construction method used. The opening will take place on February 20, 2016.
location
The underground station is located in a central location south of downtown Düsseldorf. The structure follows the course of Elisabethstrasse .
history
With the construction of the U-Bahn line, Elisabethstrasse was completely freed from tram traffic from north-south at the corner of Kirchplatz and the corner of Fürstenwall, as all five tram lines were replaced by the three U-Bahn lines. This means that the railways no longer have to share the traffic area with the rest of the traffic. This reduces the susceptibility to delays.
Station complex
There are three stair entrances and two elevators on the church square. In the northern area, two escalators lead to a distribution level . Another entrance is in the west on Fürstenwall, which is made accessible by an ascending escalator and a fixed staircase. In the western area of the church square there is another entrance through an upward escalator and a fixed staircase right next to Elisabethstraße. The two elevators are located at the Elisabethstrasse / Fürstenwall intersection, one on each side of the street, and lead directly to the tracks. On the distribution level, there is the possibility of using additional escalators and fixed stairs to get to the tracks on the 4.50 meter wide and 125 meter long side platforms . With its length, the underground station could theoretically accommodate 4 NF8U trains. However, only trains with a maximum of two trains are allowed to ensure that the trains can stop at the shorter stops on the surface.
A design competition was held in advance for the design of the Wehrhahn Line subway stations. The Kirchplatz underground station was therefore designed by the artist Enne Haehnle . The name of the project is "Spur, Schrift, Skulptur", which deals with communication.
traffic
The Kirchplatz underground station is on the third trunk line of the Düsseldorf light rail network. The station is only served by the four subway lines of the Wehrhahn line. The former above-ground station was completely eliminated.
The neighboring city and the north-eastern districts of Rath and Grafenberg can be reached via the line from Ratingen . The line branching off at the level of the employment agency connects the Gerresheim district . In the direction of the old town there is a connection to the Heinrich-Heine-Allee transfer point . In addition, the districts of Bilk , Volmerswerth , Wersten , Holthausen and Benrath located to the south and south-east are connected.
All light rail lines that run here are operated by the Düsseldorf Rheinbahn with low-floor light rail vehicles of the type NF8U.
