Valea Mare ( Hungarian Nagypatak ) is a municipality in the Covasna district , in the Transylvania region in Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality of Valea Mare is located in the northwestern foothills of the Întorsura Mountains - a part of the Eastern Carpathians - in the south of the Covasna district. The place is located seven kilometers north of the small town of Întorsura Buzăului (Bodsau) and about 27 kilometers southeast of the district capital Sfântu Gheorghe (Sankt Georgen) on the creek of the same name, a tributary of the Covasna river and on the district road (Drum județean) DJ 121A .
history
Valea Mare, which is mostly inhabited by Romanians, was first mentioned in a document in 1770.
An archaeological find of the remains of an oval property on the mountain by the locals called Culmea Cetății (Hungarian Várbérce ) has not yet been assigned to an era.
At the time of the Kingdom of Hungary Valea Mare belonged to the Sepsi district in the Háromszék County ( Romanian Comitatul Trei-Scaune ). Subsequently, Micfalău belonged to the historical Trei-Scaune (German three chairs ) and from 1950 to today's Covasna district.
Since 1999 Valea Mare has been an independent municipality, until then the place belonged to the municipality of Barcani .

Since 1850 the area of Valea Mare has had the highest number of inhabitants and that of the Romanians in 2002. The highest number of Magyars, Roma (87) and Romanian Germans were registered in 1941.
Attractions
- The Orthodox Church of Sf. Arhangheli , built in 1793, is a listed building under the Register of Historic Monuments of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (Ministerul Culturii și Patrimoniului Național) .
- The monastery in Valea Mare, first mentioned in 1994, was consecrated in 1998.
