Hăghig [ ˈhəɟig ] (outdated Haghig ; German Fürstenburg , Hungarian Hídvég ) is a municipality in the Covasna district , in the Transylvania region in Romania .
The place Hăghig is also known under the outdated names Heghig and Higic , the German Fürstenberg and the Transylvanian-Saxon name Firstenbrich .
Geographical location
The municipality of Hăghig is located east of the Transylvanian Basin (Podișul Transilvaniei) in the southern foothills of the Baraolter Mountains in the so-called Szeklerland . In the west of the Covasna district on the creek of the same name - a right tributary of the Olt (Alt) - and the national road Drum național 13E , the place Hăghig is about 20 kilometers west of the district capital Sfântu Gheorghe (Sankt Georgen) .
The train station in Feldioara (Marienburg) on the Teiuș – Brașov railway is four kilometers on the opposite side of the Olt River from Hăghig.
history
The place Hăghig was first mentioned in documents in 1252 or 1332, according to different sources.
At the time of the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality belonged to the Miklósvár chair district in the Háromszék County ( Romanian Comitatul Trei-Scaune ), in which Nagyajta was the administrative seat. Subsequently, this belonged to the historical district of Trei-Scaune (in German three chairs ) and from 1950 to today's Covasna district.

Since 1850, the highest number of inhabitants and that of the Magyars and Romanian Germans in 1977 were determined in the area of the municipality of Hăghig. The highest number of Romanians was registered in 1920 and that of Roma (702) in 2011.
Attractions
- The reformed church , built at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century, and the bell tower in 1841, are listed buildings.
- The country house of the Hungarian noble family Nemes and the chapel in the 18th / 19th centuries Built in the 18th century, it served as a retirement home after 1970 After a makeshift renovation of the main building, the property is left to decay. The property is a listed building.
- According to the directory of historical monuments of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (Ministerul Culturii și Patrimoniului Național) , the house of the Bucșa family (No. 368) is in the 18th and 19th centuries . The old cemetery from the 19th century is a listed building.
