Ghidfalău [ ɟidfaˈləu ] ( Hungarian Gidófalva ) is a municipality in Covasna County , in the Transylvania region in Romania .

The municipality of Ghidfalău is located in the southern foothills of the Bodoc Mountains in the historical Szeklerland . About in the middle of the Covasna district on the upper reaches of the river Olt (Alt) is Ghidfalău on the district road (Drum jude jean ) DJ 121A eight kilometers north of the district capital Sfântu Gheorghe (Sankt Georgen) . The nearest train station on the Sfântu Gheorghe – Adjud railway line is in the neighboring municipality of Arcuș .

history

The place Ghidfalău, mostly inhabited by Szeklern people, was first mentioned in a document in 1332.

Archaeological finds on the area, known by the locals as Șanțul adânc (Hungarian Mélyárok ) , indicate that Ghidfalău was settled in the Latène period or the early Middle Ages . Numerous finds from different ages ( Neolithic , Early Bronze Age , Latène Age ) were also made on the area of ​​the incorporated village of Fotoș (in Hungarian, Fotosmartonos ).

According to the directory of historical monuments of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (Ministerul Culturii și Patrimoniului Național) , settlements will also be in the area of ​​the incorporated village Angheluș (Hungarian Angyalos ) on the area Templomnyír ( Romanian Mestecănișul Bisericii ) in the 7th / 8th Century in the village center, and in the incorporated village of Zoltan (Hungarian Étfalvazoltán ) noted in Roman times .

In an encyclopedia from 1839, Ignaz Lenk von Treuenfeld noted that Ghidfalău is a Hungarian border village inhabited by Szeklers and Romanians and has a Greek Catholic church .

At the time of the Kingdom of Hungary Ghidfalău belonged to the Sepsi district in the Háromszék County ( Romanian Comitatul Trei-Scaune ). Subsequently, Micfalău belonged to the historical Trei-Scaune (German three chairs ) and from 1950 to today's Covasna district.

The European Union's LEADER program of measures has also contributed to various development concepts here in the Ghidfalău municipality.

Since 1850 the highest number of inhabitants and that of the Magyars, the Romanian Germans and the Roma (113) was determined in 1966 in today's municipality . The highest number of Romanians (49) was registered in 1930.

Attractions

  • The reformed church in the community center built in the 13th century, reinforced with a curtain wall in the 15th, renovated in 1878, is a listed building. Researchers found that a mural on the west wall of the nave shows a scene of the legend of St. Ladislau, in the lower part of the west wall there is the scene of the battle between Saint George and the dragon and in the upper part of the north wall of the nave there are scenes how to recognize the birth of Christ , the magicians from the east , the killing of babies in Bethlehem , the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and the Lord's Supper .
  • In the incorporated village of Zoltan, the reformed church built in 1792, the Benkő-Zágoni country house built in 1832 and the baroque gate (built in the 18th century, renovated in 2010) of the former manor house Czirjék are listed.
