The Vorderburg is located in the old town of Rüdesheim am Rhein on the southwest edge of the market in the Rheingau-Taunus district in Hesse . The Vorderburg has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley since 2002 .
The first mention of a noble family comes from 1189. Later the castle was owned by the Brömser von Rüdesheim family. The castle, like the Brömserburg , was probably destroyed by French soldiers in 1640 . From the old castle only the almost square defense tower is preserved. Around 1663 a house was added to the tower.
